Nerikomi and Zogan Colored Porcelain Clay Techniques Workshop with Dorothy Feibleman

Date: December 6, 7 and 8, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm daily

In this intensive three-day workshop students will learn how to work with nerikomi and zogan inlaid laminated colored porcelain clay using a unique variety of coloring and fusing methods developed by the artist. Participants will learn how to mix colors, how to make gradations and how to make patterns. They will also complete a sake cup or tea bowl and learn finishing techniques.

Since, 1995 the London-based artist has worked with white clays with varied translucency and color and recently she developed new translucent white porcelains. She is currently working on a book about colored clay in contemporary Japanese ceramics and its influences from and to the West.

Feibleman regularly conducts workshops internationally and has been artist in residence in Jikken kobo, Inax, Tokoname, Seto Ceramic and Glass Center, Seto City, and Shigaraki Cultural Park, Shigaraki.

Her work is included in a number of public collections including Victoria and Albert Museum, London, Stuttgart Museum, Germany, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Intl Ceramic Festival Mino 08

Three of Dorothy's new work will be exhibited at International Ceramic Festival, Mino 08, Japan, and one of her "Feibleman Designs" got Silver prize.

Gareth Harris collaborated with Dorothy Feibleman and made "TEA" for Feibleman Designs. It received a Silver prize in Design. In addition, it got "Public Favorite Award" as well as the silver.


Martin Baker collaborated with Dorothy Feibleman and made "Kanzashi" for Feibleman Designs.

Dorothy entered an installation she made of Petals and light to be hung from the ceiling, "this is a detail of the installation".

It'll be exhibited at Mino competition 2008 opening August 1st.

Workshop at Honolulu Academy of Art

Dorothy will give a workshoop from December 6th to 13th, 2008 at the Honolulu Academy of Art. She will be teaching the first three days (6th to 8th) and the rest of the time (9th to 13th) is workshop time if participants want to continue working in the studio.

Dorothy will be available for any problems or advice about what the students are working on during the session. If participants want only to come to the first three days, that is up to them if they want more of a holiday.
